“As a kid, she dreamed of tropical islands, pirate boats and sea creatures.”
Leslie Morgan was born in the middle of a Texas desert where the nearest ocean was 600 miles away. As a kid, she dreamed of tropical islands, pirate boats and sea creatures. The public pool served a mode of escape and a cure for her asthma. The water became a lifetime obsession and joy. She spent her early professional years in Key West as a Psychologist. Her free time was spent anchored behind dessert islands in The Keys and the Bahamas. Morgan retired from Psychology and moved to Northern California. She joined a Masters synchronized swim team and dove into her current profession as an artist. With a history in photography, she began to transform this art form into her unique hybrid of painting and collage. Her memories, experiences and feelings from being in water serve as undercurrents to the concepts in her work. She explores ideas tied to preservation often using female icons, the environment, relationships and repurposed materials.
